Set up and change rewards using Extole’s upgraded Flow Builder.
💡 Important Note: This guide only applies to flow campaigns that use Extole’s upgraded Flow Builder. Check for the flow icon next to your campaign name.
Choosing the right reward is key to driving engagement. To keep your program fresh and relevant, we recommend updating rewards regularly. This article covers how to set up or replace an existing reward in your flow campaign.
All flow campaigns come with default rewards available in the Flow Builder that you can finish setting up.
For example, a standard referral campaign comes with the following rewards:
Friend Reward on Share Clicked (disabled by default): This is an optional reward that is automatically dispensed to the friend when they use an advocate’s share link and arrive on the Landing Experience (no email capture required).
Friend Reward on Signed Up (disabled by default): This is an optional reward that is automatically dispensed to the friend when they use an advocate’s share link and successfully sign up on the Landing Experience (email capture required).
Friend Reward on Converted (enabled by default): This is our best-practice reward for driving friends to convert and become customers. When a friend makes a qualified purchase, they will be rewarded.
Advocate Reward on Friend Converted (enabled by default): This is our best-practice reward for driving advocates to share your brand with friends. When a friend makes a qualified purchase, the advocate who referred them will be rewarded.
If you are updating a reward on an existing campaign, you may also need to update the messaging in your campaign to ensure it reflects the new reward value.
A reward has two names, and renaming it is a change to your campaign, not just to a label.
The name at the top of the reward is the one you see and edit in the Flow Builder. Editing it also sets the reward’s internal name: Extole lowercases what you typed and replaces spaces with underscores, so “Advocate Gift Card” becomes advocate_gift_card. The reward’s Journey Name follows that, and the reward’s journey and step events are named after it in turn.
Reward Name is the identifier stamped on each reward issued. Reward rules such as Has Not Been Rewarded For Relationship match on it, and the reward’s own events are named after it — a reward named converted_advocate records converted_advocate_reward_earned and converted_advocate_reward_fulfilled. Metrics that count those events reference them by name.
Reward Name only stays put if it has been given a fixed value. Left on its default, it follows the name at the top like everything else.
Rename freely while a campaign is still in draft. On a live campaign, treat a rename as a behavior change: rewards and events recorded before the rename keep the names they were recorded under. A rule that checks whether a person has already been rewarded stops seeing them, and any metric whose expression references the old event name stops counting until you update the expression.
