Overview

The How to Reward with Tango Gift Cards guide creates a gift card reward in My Extole. This page creates the same reward through the REST API. A gift card reward needs three things: the account’s gift card account, a card from the Tango catalog, and a value.

The Gift Card Account

Every gift card reward draws on one gift card account. My Extole creates that account the first time someone creates a gift card reward, so an account that has never had one has no gift card account yet. Over REST, you create it yourself, once. A new gift card account has a balance of zero. A reward on it can be attached to a campaign and published, but it sends no gift card until the balance is funded. Extole funds the balance by invoice or by credit card; see Fund Your Gift Card Balance.

Create a Gift Card Reward

  1. Find the gift card account. GET /v2/settings/tango/accounts lists the account’s gift card accounts. If the list has one, use its account_id and go to step 3.
  2. Create the gift card account if the list is empty. POST /v2/settings/tango/accounts with the balance at which Extole warns that funds are low. funds_amount_warn_limit is required. My Extole uses 2500:
The response carries the new account_id. An account can hold only a limited number of gift card accounts, and a request past the limit returns account_limit_reached.
  3. Choose the card. GET /v2/reward-suppliers/tango/catalog returns the cards Tango sells today. Each brand lists its items. Pick the item in the currency you want and note its utid. An item with a face_value has a fixed value. An item with min_value and max_value takes any value between them.
  4. Create the reward. POST /v6/reward-suppliers with reward_supplier_type set to TANGO_V2. account_id, utid and face_value_type are required:
  5. Attach the reward. Set the reward step’s Reward setting to the new reward’s id. See Component Settings Over REST, or Change the Reward on your Program in My Extole.
You can’t change the card on a gift card reward after you create it. To use a different card, create a new reward and attach it in place of the old one.
