Overview

An upgrade can change what starts a business event in a Flow Builder campaign: a Triggered By selection replaces a rule that matched event names. If your counts move after the upgrade, compare what arrived and what it created on both sides of the publish that carried the upgrade. Each pattern below points to a different cause.

Compare Both Sides of the Upgrade

  1. Find the date the upgraded campaign was published.
  2. Take the same number of whole days before and after that date, and leave the publish day out. Use seven days on each side when the upgrade is at least a week old.
  3. Run two reports, each once, over one range that spans both sides, by day:
    • An Input Record Metrics report that counts each input event name.
    • A Metrics report that counts each step name three ways: high-quality and low-quality steps that have a campaign, and steps that have none. A step with no campaign is neither high nor low quality, so count it once with quality:"ALL". Set attribution in every count. Custom Data Queries using Extole Reports gives the syntax.
  4. Compare every name and every step, not only the ones the upgrade changed. A change in one campaign can move traffic in another.
Some event names come from automated security scans of your site, such as names that contain quotes or brackets. Leave those out of the comparison.

What Each Pattern Means

An Old Event-Name Rule Beside Triggered By

A business event can keep its old Input Event Matches Event Names rule beside its new Triggered By selection. When it does, the business event fires only when an event matches both. An event that Triggered By selects, but that the old rule doesn’t name, creates no step. Remove the old rule once Triggered By selects every event that should start the business event.
