# Cursor

> Connect Cursor to Extole and manage your referral programs alongside your code.

Connect your Extole programs to Cursor and manage referrals alongside your code.

Cursor is an AI-powered code editor. Once connected to Extole, you can pull program data, check reward configurations, and make changes from Cursor's AI chat — useful when building integrations or automations on top of Extole.

## Requirements

Every person who wants to use the Extole MCP must complete setup individually.

You'll need:

* The latest version of [Cursor](https://cursor.com/) installed
* An active Extole user account
* MCP access enabled for your Extole organization (contact your administrator if unsure)

## Setup

**Step 1: Open MCP settings**

In Cursor, go to **Cursor > Preferences > Cursor Settings**, then open **Customize > MCPs**. You can also open **Customize** from the Cursor sidebar.

**Step 2: Add the Extole server**

Cursor reads MCP servers from an `mcp.json` file. Use `~/.cursor/mcp.json` to make Extole available in every project, or `.cursor/mcp.json` inside a project folder to limit it to that project. Add the following:

Save the file. Extole appears in the **MCPs** list.

**Step 3: Authorize the connection**

Extole uses OAuth, so you log in once before its tools load.

1. Start the login from the Extole entry in the **MCPs** list.
2. Your browser opens an Extole authorization page.
3. Review the permissions and click **Authorize**.

Extole creates an access token linked to your user account.

**Step 4: Verify the connection**

Extole shows as connected in the **MCPs** list, with its tools listed and its toggle switched on.

## Using the MCP

Once connected, use Extole tools from Cursor's AI chat panel.

**Step 1:** Open the AI chat panel and select **Agent** mode.

**Step 2:** Enter a prompt, such as:

> *"What's the current conversion rate on our refer-a-friend program?"*

> *"Show me the reward configuration for the friend offer in campaign X."*

> *"Update the advocate reward in the spring campaign to \$25."*

**Step 3:** Cursor asks you to approve each MCP tool call. Approve it to continue.

Cursor's [Run Modes](https://cursor.com/docs/agent/security/run-modes), under **Settings > Agents > Approvals & Execution**, control how much runs without a prompt. Review them carefully before choosing a mode that runs write operations unattended.

  Actions that modify programs, rewards, or campaign components execute immediately under your Extole permissions and are recorded in the Extole change log.
